Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC)

Welcome reception. Sunday, June 21

Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC), historical and current headquarters of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, is a magnificent 17th century civil building aimed at the convalescence of the sick of the neighboring Hospital de la Santa Cruz

Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) was a clear improvement in the care of convalescent patients. At the end of the 17th century, it had two hundred beds of iron, four hundred mattresses and paintings to «brighten up the sight», and to the patients who could take it they gave them meat and desserts. The link between the Casa de Convalescència and the hospital continued, thus, until the beginning of the 20th century.

In classicist style – you just have to see the austerity and sober decoration of the facades and the entrance -, the building makes few concessions to the Baroque. But, beyond the architectural and social value, the Casa de Convalescència brings together important examples of plastic arts from the 17th and 18th centuries, both in sculpture and painting (murals and paintings), as in ceramics and coatings. Not surprisingly, the most significant sculptors, painters and shutters of the time had been hired

This singular building, located in the middle of the city of Barcelona, will be the place that will host the Welcome Drink of SED 2020

Transportation

Getting to UAB Bellaterra Campus

A natural way to get to UAB campus is by train. Trains run every 6-7 minutes (slighty lower frequency on Sunday, 10-12 minutes of waiting) to either Universitat Autònoma (S2) or Sabadell (always with stops in Autònoma, S55)

By car

AP-7 motorway, direction Girona-França, exit “Universitat Autònoma”.

Highway C-58, direction Sabadell-Terrassa, exit number 8, which connects with the AP-7, direction Tarragona. On the AP-7 take the side road; at 1000 m, exit “Universitat Autònoma”.

Several second-order roads connect the nearby towns with Cerdanyola del Vallès and Bellaterra.

GPS Direction: https://goo.gl/maps/u7jpcCAZE5cnHYw37

By train

You have two options:

Railways of the Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC): Line Barcelona / Sabadell (S2) and Barcelona / UAB (S6), to Universitat Autònoma Station.

The journey time from Barcelona is thirty minutes. There are trains every ten minutes or so. You can check the schedules on the FGC website, www.fgc.cat/en

Train RENFE: From the Cerdanyola-Universitat station there is a free bus service (only on weekdays) that communicates with the different buildings on the campus and stops in front of Vila Universitària.

By bus

From Barcelona: SARBUS offers a service from Barcelona (Fabra i Puig) to the UAB every 30 minutes. For more information and schedules, www.moventis.es

Getting to Barcelona from the Airport

El Prat-Josep Tarradellas Airport (BCN) is the main Barcelona airport. It is about 13 km south-west of the Barcelona city centre (Plaça Catalunya). From the airport you can get to the city by Aerobus, Bus (TMB), train, metro or taxi.

Aerobús (A1 and A2)

Aerobús is a special service to get to Barcelona from the airport to the city center.

Special bus service that connects Barcelona airport with the city center. This service normally works between 5 and 10 minutes within its fixed hours of operation.

You can take the Aerobus from outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The Aerobús will take you to the city center, where you can get off at Plaça España or Plaça de Catalunya. There are other stops that we recommend that you consult the questions mentioned on their specified Aerobus page.

Tickets for T1 and T2 cost the same.

One-way ticket: € 5.90 / Round trip ticket: € 10.20 / Return ticket validity: 15 days

Visit the specific page of the Aerobus service of the Barcelona airport for more detailed information, including the schedule. (http://www.aerobusbcn.com/en/)

Train (Renfe)

Airport train departing from Barcelona airport:

The entrance to the train station is located on Terminal 2. It can also be reached by the same stairs that lead to the departure hall. Follow the signs of RENFE by a covered bridge that crosses the main road outside the airport. The train station is at the base of the stairs on the other side.

If you arrive or leave from Terminal 1, you will not be able to walk to or from the train station. You need to take the free shuttle bus that connects the train station with the Terminal 2.

When you arrive at the train station of the Barcelona airport, to take the shuttle bus you must walk to the end of the train platform and leave the building through the door located on the left. The shuttle bus stop is located here. Shuttle buses are scheduled to match train arrival times.

Price: 4,10€

The frequency of trains is variable during the day, therefore, we recommend that you visit the RENFE website with the schedules here: http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/cercanias/barcelona/

Metro

The subway is another means of transport that you can use to go from the airport to the center of Barcelona. There is a stop in both T1 and T2.

The metro line of the airport is the L9 Sud that ends in the University Zone. The journey is covered in about 45 minutes. The price of the ticket costs 4.5 euros (it is a special rate for trips to the airport).

Bus (TMB. Number 46)

This bus operates during the day from both airport terminals. The bus number 46 travels from T1. It continues to T2 and then goes to city center. This bus has more stops than the Aerobus and takes more time to travel to the city center; However, the great advantage of using this bus is that you can use the T10 transport ticket on this trip, unlike the Aerobus. The frequency is about 15 minutes.

By taxi

The taxi is one of the most comfortable and fast ways (after private transfer) to reach your destination. A journey from Barcelona airport to the center (Pl. Catalunya) will normally cost between 30 and 35 euros. If there is not much traffic it takes between 20 and 30 minutes.

Keep in mind that the driver can apply some surcharges to the taximeter, including luggage and traveling to or from the airport. You will see the rates and surcharges on a table inside the taxi. You can also check them in this link: http://taxi.amb.cat/s/en/taxista/tarifes-i-taxes.html

Transportation in Barcelona

The T-Casual can be purchased at the machines of the metro or train stations to travel during your stay in Barcelona.

With a T-Casual trip you can make the journey from Barcelona to the UAB and then return without buying any additional ticket.
